Have you ever admitted to someone that they are your hero? Hero is a pretty sacred word in my vocabulary. Of course there are two levels of heroism. There are the real heroes in your life, like my grandfather and father. My grandfather was in the Navy, the most detailed man I have ever known, and as tenacious and thourough as they come. My father has beaten cancer, divorces, sons who don't call him, the whole nine yards. Then there is the second level of heroes, the guys like Ryne Sandberg, Lance Armstrong, and Dave Grohl. Guys that you really, really admire, but you have no personal contact with and never really get a chance to find out what kind of person they are. I have never met Ryno, Livestrong, or Nirvana's Drummer, so I consider them in the second category.

I admitted to one of my heroes that I admired him today. Tony Pierce, of the infamous (it means more than famous) busblog, has long been somoene who I really admired. He has an impeccable knack for writing interesting things about inane things, and he is a Cubs fan, which instantly elevates him in my book. I sent him a gushing email, and he posted it on his blog, forever ingraining me in his long history of blogging. It made me extremely happy to know that he takes the time to personally respond to me, and to know that my email made it past the filter of the writing subjects he could be writing about. Plus, it put him in that weird place right in between the first and second category of heroism. He is definately a second category hero, but now I have personally corresponded with him. So, do I have to come up with a new 1a category?

Please go check out his blog. It is at this address. I am sure you will find it as fascinating as I do. Don't worry, he only mentions the Cubs in every third or fourth post, so if you are afraid it is something akin to Aaron Gleeman's Blog (www.aarongleeman.com), you are safe.

By the way, Tony...I love my job. It is in Texas, so I am sure you want to stay in Hollywood...but I bet we could find a spot for you here...

Well, instead of explaining why I haven't posted in a while, I am just going to jump back in.

I love baseball. I love that the teams have to play 162 games to prove their worth. Hot streaks don't make a season (unless you are the Cardinals this year), and a 4 game losing streak really means nothing in the course of a season.

So why is it that teams go on a hot streak as the same time as the Cubs? The Giants are matching the Cubbies win for win right now.

So I get to go to Wrigley next month. I am uber excited. I haven't been in quite a long time. I have tix to two games, and one of them is a night game. I haven't been to a night game before, so I am really looking forward to it.

My computer at home sucks. If you know how to test if a hard drive is bad, tell me. I can't reinstall windows thanks to a bad file, but all ofmy hard drives seem fine.

Whatever I want it to be. My thoughts, my family, my rants. All in one delicious, appetizing sampler.
